Inside Out and Back Again

This book is by Thanhha Lai. Though it was a quick read, the writing style took a bit of adjusting to. It was 260 pages, and was written in first person as well as in a poem like style. It is broken up into short paragraphs and was a little confusing. Inside Out and Back Again is about a ten year old girl named Hà who lives in a the town Saigon in Vietnam. She is so comfortable and used to everything there, she really feels that
it is her home. Soon the Vietnam War started, and Hà and her family had to travel across the world to Alabama. Everything is different and she has to find a way to heal and gather enough strength to live in Alabama though she knows it will never be her home. This book was actually inspired by the author because Hà's story is very similar and based off of Thanhha Lai's journey. She experienced the Vietnam War, and had to flee to Alabama too. I personally didn't like this book because of the writing style, but other people might like it. I really liked the story because it was a story of change, dreams, and especially strength and anyone in AS or in our class. Like I said it has different writing style so it just wasn't my kind of book.
